Dorian Cooke

Dorian Cooke was born in The Hague and studied bassoon at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague where she was schooled by Johan Steinmann. She also attended Master Classes with Brian Pollard. She continued her studies in Berlin at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler with prof. Klaus Thunemann and Frank Forst. From 1997 to 1998 she was the first bassoonist of the Orkest van het Oosten. After that she filled the same position at the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and since 1 January 2000 she’s the first bassoonist at the Residentie Orkest. Besides playing in an orchestra, Dorian Cooke also likes to play chamber music. Since 1998 she has been a member of the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble (Dutch Wind Ensemble) and she plays in the contemperary ensemble Nieuw Amsterdams Peil. Composers like Frigyes Hidas, Theodor Burkali, Stephen Melillo, Vincente Moncho and Harrie Janssen wrote compositions for her. The recordings of these have been released on CD.
