Rebecca Fransen (Hengelo, 1992) is a permanent double bassist with Phion (formerly Het Gelderse Orkest & Het Orkest van het Oosten). She completed her bachelor’s degree at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with teachers Peter Leerdam, Olivier Thiery en Rick Stotijn.
After this she continued her studies at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. There Rebecca completed her Master’s degree cum laude by Professor Rick Stotijn. To be able to follow this study in Germany, she was awarded a Young Talend Culture Fund in 2017 from the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. In October 2018, Rebecca became a special incentive to continue her German career as best as possible.
During the final phase of het Masters, Rebecca was working as a Solo Bassist in the Swedish Chamber Orchestra Musica Vitae, conducted by Malin Broman. During her appointment she lived in Växjö, Sweden. Rebecca was also a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) for several years, making marked tours both within and outside Europe. In addition, Rebecca played in the Young Netherlands Wind Ensemble and in The Gelders Orchestra Academy.
She has performed with, among others, The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonie Zuid-Nederland, Het Residentie Orkest, The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, The Netherlands Wind Ensemble, Het Gelders Orkest, Het Orkest van het Oosten, The Ludwig Orchestra and the Metropole Orchestra.
In addition to her classical education, Rebecca also followed a minor in Jazz-Contrabass in Amsterdam with Ruud Ouwehand. She has been part of Herman van Veen’s Ladies Band since 2017.
