Musician, 17 – 21 August 2022
Jonathan Bonny (1992, Bruges) studied classical percussion at the conservatories of Ghent, Helsinki and The Hague. In recent years he has been part of interdisciplinary theater productions as a multi-instrumentalist and/or composer. In order to focus more on performing his own music in the near future, Jonathan is currently working on the creation of his artpop alter ego JÓRMA. With this solo project, he has been building bridges since 2021 (supported by the talent development trajectory Station Noord): between pop culture and music theatre, between the Groningen workplace and his hometown Rotterdam, and between himself and his audience.
Jonathan plays/played with Slagwerk Den Haag, Askol Schönberg, Blindman (Drums), Ensemble KLANG, Club Guy & Roni, HardScore, the Flemish Opera, the Dutch National Opera, Orkater and Silbersee. His compositions have been performed by the Spectra Ensemble, Lunapark, Casca Phil, Diamanda Dramm, the Royal Netherlands Navy Band and DeCompagnie. He wrote music for Teddy’s Last Ride, MoOn Productions, Boost Productions, PeerGroup, Silbersee, theater Sonnevanck and the VRPO.
In 2012 he came second at the Yamaha Benelux Percussion competition and in 2014 he won first prize for the vibraphone category at the international Percussion Arts Society competition in Italy. In 2016 he performed the winning composition (Stream for Marimba, Nikos Kokolakis) at the composition competition within the TROMP international percussion competition. In 2020 Jonathan was nominated for the Keep an Eye production award.
